About the Organizers

A heartfelt reunion like this wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of those who lived through the spirit of the Capital District Basketball League in its heyday. The reunion is organized by a group of former players and fans who experienced firsthand the excellence, competitiveness, and camaraderie of basketball during the 1970s. At the heart of this effort are the four Strayhorn brothers—Ron, Michael, Frank (deceased), and Peter.

Each of these brothers, along with their teammates and friends, developed a deep love for the game and the legacy of the Capital District. Over the decade of the 1970s, they built friendships, battled fiercely on the court, and formed lasting bonds with the community.

The organizing team consists of Ron, Michael, and Peter Strayhorn (JM), Reeda Worden, Stocktina Bolden, Melody “Penny” Forrester, Esq. (JM), and Michael D. Williams (JM).

Thanks to our advisor consultants, Keith Bagby (JM), Harry McGee (JM), Paul Pressey (GW), Irvin Carter (TJ), Johnna Jackson (HUG), Pam Rose Castelle (ARM), Gary Flowers (TJ), William “Bubba” Johnson (MW), Ronnie Wade (JM), Tim Royal (JM), James Lurry (JFK), Melvin Roane (JFK), and Glennis Singleton Crosby (JM).

Special thanks to super fans Jackie Young McGraw (JM), Bonnie Mitchell (JM), Vicki Rozzell Hinton (TJ), and Linda Wade.  This event would not exist without the insight, support, dedication, and hard work of this talented team!

It is in this spirit—of honoring the past while supporting the future—that this team of organizers has come together to host this reunion. Their goal is not only to bring together the legends of the past but also to support the next generation of basketball players and cheerleaders. A portion of the net proceeds from this event will be donated to the original Capital District high schools (Armstrong, George Wythe, Huguenot, John F. Kennedy*, John Marshall, Maggie L. Walker, Thomas Jefferson) to support boys and girls basketball and cheerleading while helping to strengthen the legacy of the Capital District, ensuring that future generations can continue to experience the same competitive drive and excellence that defined the league for so many.

* John F. Kennedy’s designated donation will be spread equally among the remaining six Capital District high schools as John F. Kennedy high school no longer exists.

Early Bird - $30 + fees

Tickets will increase to $35 at the gate on Sept. 20th.
